“If you once forfeit the confidence of your fellow citizens, you can never regain their respect and esteem. It is true that you may fool all of the people some of the time; you can even fool some of the people all of the time; but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.”
– Abraham Lincoln
A variation on this – a friend of mine once told me of a situation in which she’d been invited, so to speak, to sell her integrity. She had declined. I said something to the effect that I admired her for not being willing to do so. She replied, no, it’s just the price was too low. After all, you can only sell your integrity once.
You can (fool all of the people all of the time) if those that aren’t fooled don’t VOTE.
How are you Woodstock? I’m trying to get back on track!
